Medical Care and Insurance

Medical Providers

For day-to-day medical needs and healthcare appointments, many students use Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) in Kenmore Square, a multi-specialty group practice very close to campus. HVMA also offers an Urgent Care Clinic and a 24-hour medical advice line: 617-421-1196.

Another nearby resource is Fenway Health. Fenway Health specializes in services for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities, individuals with HIV/AIDS, and those with limited access to health services. However, care is available to anyone. Fenway Health is located on Boylston Street and can be reached by phone at 617-927-6000.

Please note: Direct medical care is not available on campus, except physical therapy and sports medicine consultations, by appointment.

Health Insurance

The state of Massachusetts requires all full- and three-quarter-time students to be enrolled in a health insurance plan that offers comprehensive coverage. All coverage must be in effect while the student is in Massachusetts, as well as anywhere in the United States and abroad, and be compliant with the Affordable Care Act.

All full- and three-quarter-time students are automatically enrolled in, and charged for, Boston Conservatory's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP). Boston Conservatory's SHIP is administered by Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk. The 2016–2017 SHIP includes many enhancements, is underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield, and provides coverage from August 15, 2016, through August 14, 2017.

Students wishing to utilize alternate, comparable coverage must actively waive the SHIP each year. The deadline to waive the 2016–2017 plan is September 16, 2016. Please be mindful, however, that tuition is due August 1, 2016.

Please refer to the email sent to students by Gallagher Student Health for more information and instructions for completing the online waiver form. Instructions are also provided in all billing-related communications from the Conservatory.
