Ron Roy joined Boston Conservatory in 2008 and is a musical theater pianist and coach for both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
Roy’s Off-Broadway credits include Disappearing Act and Forbidden Broadway, as well as numerous cabaret shows at The Metropolitan Room, Don't Tell Mama, Danny's Skylight Room, Eighty Eights and La MaMa. Locally, he performs regularly at Sculler's Jazz Club, Third Life Studios and the Action Jazz Café. Roy is a recipient of the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Accompanist. He also served as repetiteur for Boston Concert Opera and The Boston Academy of Music.
Roy's musical director credits include Forbidden Broadway (Boston, New York), Forbidden Hollywood (Boston, Chicago, Tokyo), Forever Plaid (Boston), Crazy For You (Berlin, Germany, First National Tour). He has worked on collaborations with The Huntington Theatre Company’s annual Spotlight Spectacular galas, playing for such artists as Victor Garber, Brooks Ashmanskas, Kate Burton, and Andrea Martin. Roy has also served as a guest artist with The Ariel Group, an international organization unique in its use of music in developing leadership skills to members of multi-national corporations around the globe. Roy is a founding member and teacher at The Tuscany Project, an annual summer voice intensive workshop in Italy, now in its twenty fourth year. In addition, he has taught in workshops at The Roy Hart Theatre in the south of France.
Roy earned his B.M. in piano performance from the University of New Hampshire in 1974 (Donald Steele, Louise Rogers). He completed further piano studies in Boston at the New School Of Music under the direction of David Deveau. Roy also worked with celebrated actor Alvin Epstein on song interpretation, on making a song your own.
Roy is an ongoing musical and vocal coach for private students and aspiring singers in the Boston area. He has developed and played for many cabaret shows, a number of which have been made into CD’s; Something Irresistible: The Songs of Fran Landesman and Simon Wallace, Don’t Bother To Knock with Shepley Metcalf, and Cravings: Songs of Hunger and Satisfaction.
