Thank you for joining us for this performance, officially marking the end of fall semester at Boston Conservatory at Berklee. The opportunity to return to real, collaborative music-making in this artistic season has meant a great deal to this community, as it has for artists around the world. While all art has the ability to profoundly impact an individual and a society, the collective and collaborative nature of music-making—combined with the intangible electricity created in the concert environment—is something that stands truly unique in our existence. It was Plato who asserted that “music gives a soul to the universe,” a postulate that continues to prove itself true more than 2,300 years later.

The term duende is used in flamenco to refer to the state of inspiration and supreme perceptiveness, or more simply stated, the magic that is reached by a performer in moments of great inspiration. This idea awakens and inspires the imagination in so many ways. The Latin theme behind this evening’s selections manifests this idea through the evocative rhythms and enchanting melodies of music sourced from Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and Spain.
