Hone your technical and performance skills, increase your understanding of what it takes to build and maintain a career in opera, and work with distinguished faculty and guests—all in the inspiring setting of the Berklee Valencia campus, located at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia.
Who Should Apply
Singers who are currently undergraduate students or who have recently completed their undergraduate study are eligible for the Boston Conservatory Opera Intensive at Valencia.
It is not necessary to have studied voice or opera as an undergraduate, but singers should be serious about opera study and have at least three arias in their repertoire, prepared in the original languages.
About the Program
For three weeks this summer, aspiring young opera singers from around the world will come together at the Valencia campus to participate in the Boston Conservatory Opera Intensive at Valencia. Sponsored by Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Berklee College of Music's campus in Valencia, this unique program offers talented singers the opportunity to hone their technical skills with world-class faculty, gain valuable performance experience in a variety of settings, learn how to build and maintain a career in opera, and connect with industry professionals.
One of the unique features of the Boston Conservatory Opera Intensive at Valencia is the ability for participants to have access to Berklee's state-of-the-art recording studios. Each participant will be able to record a limited number of arias/songs for their use in applications for graduate schools or young artist programs. Berklee’s engineers will master the recordings, and the selections will be coached and accompanied by our music staff. Each participant will leave the program with a professionally produced recording of their selections.
Participating in the Boston Conservatory Opera Intensive at Valencia will give students an excellent window into what it takes to be a successful opera singer. This includes the required musical, vocal, and dramatic skills but also the personality, professionalism, and understanding of the business that are necessary to not only survive but thrive. The Boston Conservatory Opera Intensive at Valencia is an exciting and supportive environment that will stretch and inspire students and help them succeed.
Coming to Valencia, with its rich cultural heritage and beautiful scenery, is an added benefit to the program. The Berklee facilities and the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia are world renowned. The Palau de les Arts, which opened in 2005, is the home of opera and other cultural events in Valencia. Many luminaries of the opera world have been associated with the Palau, including Zubin Mehta, Lorin Maazel, and, most notably, Plácido Domingo. Domingo has performed regularly at the Palau; supervised the Palau’s young artist program, which is named in his honor; and made the Palau the home of his Operalia competition.
