Written by theater faculty member Elizabeth Wong, Kimchee and Chitlins is a serious comedy about cultural identity, power, the media, and racial tensions inspired by true events. TV reporter Suzie Seeto resents covering only "minority issues," but agrees to investigate the story of a Haitian woman who claims she was attacked by an immigrant Korean grocer. As conflicting truths emerge, a Rashomon-like mystery of "what really happened" unfolds, and Suzie discovers that nothing is quite what it seems.

Event Statement:

"To my director, cast, production team, and to the theater division, I thank you all for saying YES to Kimchee and Chitlins, a comedy about race relations and the news media. I greatly appreciate your dedication to our art and craft; I was so looking forward to your amazing talent because representation matters. And while I do still believe in the healing power of laughter, in the wake of recent events, the timing is not right for this play. I have asked to withdraw because this is not a time for comedy; it's a time for grappling with an ongoing unfolding national tragedy. A time for reflection. A time for action in real life. And a time for mourning.—Elizabeth Wong"
