Boston Conservatory at Berklee to Present Acclaimed Musical 'Head Over Heels'
Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s fall Center Stage performance season will showcase an acclaimed musical from Thursday, November 4 through Sunday, November 7 at the Boston Conservatory Theater. The beloved jukebox musical Head Over Heels, featuring students studying theater at the Conservatory, will highlight the songs of the iconic all-female rock band the Go-Go’s, with music by Belinda Carlisle, Jane Wiedlin, Charlotte Caffey, Gina Schock, and Kathy Valentine, including the smash hits “We Got the Beat” and “Our Lips are Sealed.”
The musical adapts the 16th-century prose pastoral romance The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney into a feel-good story of Arcadia’s royal family attempting to keep their famous “beat” going. The Conservatory will perform the musical’s book by Jeff Whitty, adapted by James Magruder.
“Head Over Heels is a joyful pop-rock confection of a musical,” said Scott Edmiston, dean of theater for Boston Conservatory at Berklee. “It anachronistically merges the conventions of Elizabethan pastoral romance with the new wave vibe of the Go-Go’s. That’s an audacious, original, and funny concept. But beneath the show’s feel-good beat, its depiction of genderqueer love and acceptance is pioneering and real. I hope our production will inspire our audience to understand gender identity and expression in new ways.”
Head Over Heels will take place at the Boston Conservatory Theater, located at 31 Hemenway Street in Boston, MA, at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 4; Friday, November 5; and Saturday, November 6. Performances will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7. Tickets for Head Over Heels are $20 for regular seating; $15–$10 for senior citizens, Boston Conservatory alumni, and WGBH members; and $10–$5 for students.
