Boston Conservatory at Berklee announces the appointment of Andy Vores as associate vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer of the Conservatory.

This role reports to the Conservatory's Executive Director Cathy Young and works closely with division deans and chairs to plan and direct the Conservatory’s academic and performance programs. Additionally, the associate vice president of academic affairs works closely with the provost, the vice president for enrollment, the deputy chief of staff, and the chief financial officer to implement the Conservatory’s academic, enrollment, and financial strategies.

Vores brings many years of experience to this position, having first joined the Conservatory in 2001 as the chair of composition, theory, and music history. Over the past 17 years, he has served the Conservatory in numerous capacities, including interim assistant dean for academic affairs, interim dean of music, and associate dean for curriculum and academic planning. In this last role, he led Conservatory-wide initiatives to implement new courses, programs, and degrees, as well as revamp and restructure existing programs to expand the Conservatory’s offerings and take full advantage of its unique access to music, dance, and theater.

Additionally, Vores maintains a successful career as a composer. His works have been performed all over the world and he has been the recipient of numerous honors and prizes, including the Koussevitsky Fellowship, the Kucyna International Composition Competition Award, the Scottish National Orchestra Ian Whyte Award, the Tanglewood Prize for Composition, the Omaha Symphony Guild New Music Contest, and the Huddersfield Festival Prize. His work has been commissioned by Boston University Opera Institute (Freshwater), Sanford Sylvan and David Breitman (Return to a Place), Kathleen Supové/the Barlow Endowment (Wetherby Nocturne), Collage New Music (Goback Goback), the Borromeo String Quartet/Chamber Music America (Quartet No.3), the Cantata Singers (World Wheel), Boston Musica Viva (Umberhulk and Forgot), and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (Uncertainty Is Beautiful and Two Fabrications).

Vores’s deep understanding of Boston Conservatory’s unique culture, combined with his extensive experience as both an administrator and artist, make him an ideal candidate for the role of associate vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer.
