Versatility is key for vocalists, and training across styles—from classical to pop to hip-hop—helps students prepare for a wide spectrum of career opportunities. Christy Turnbow and Michael Hanley, assistant professors of voice at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, embrace this integrated approach in vocal pedagogy.

"It makes them more marketable. It makes them able to book more jobs. You can do Spring Awakening one run and come back and audition and do Oklahoma!, and you're fit and ready to go for all those different jobs," said Turnbow.
