Yuchen Lu, violist, received his Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School with Carol Rodland, where he is a teaching assistant of Rodland’s studio. Previously, he studied at New England Conservatory with Kim Kashkashian. Lu won first prize at the Klein International String Competition, second prize at the Lionel Tertis viola competition, and third prize in the Johansen International competition for young string players. Lu has attended the Marlboro Music Festival, Bowdoin Music Festival, Yellow Bran, and Morningside Music Bridge, and was a member of the Seiji Ozawa Orchestra Academy and New York String Orchestra Seminar. Lu will join forces with pianist Tae Kim in a recital featuring works of Bach, Brahms, Enescu, Rochberg, and a contemporary work by Yanjun Hua.

About the Artists
Originally from Anhui in Eastern China, violist Yuchen Lu has garnered international recognition for his unique artistry and virtuosity and for his passionate and musically compelling performances. Lu recently won the George and Elizabeth Gregory concerto competition at Mannes School of Music. He is the first-prize winner of the 2021 Irving M. Klein International String Competition and second-prize winner at the 2019 Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition. Lu has been presented as soloist with orchestra, a recitalist, and a chamber musician throughout the world. Recent engagements have included his California debut performing the Bartok viola concerto with the Santa Cruz Symphony and a solo recital on the Gualala Arts Chamber Music Series.
Lu has attended Morningside Music Bridge, the Bowdoin International Music Festival (as a fellowship recipient), and Yellow Barn, and was a member of the Seiji Ozawa Orchestra Academy. During the summer of 2022, he was a fellow at the Marlboro Music Festival, performing with artists such as Marcy Rosen, Nobuko Imai, Mitsuko Uchida, Peter Wiley, Hsin-Yun Huang, and Joseph Lin.
Lu is currently studying with Milan Milisavljević at the Mannes School of Music for his professional studies diploma. He received his Master of Music in May 2022 from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Carol Rodland and currently serves as her teaching assistant. He received his
Bachelor of Music at the New England Conservatory as a student of Kim Kashkashian. Prior to coming to the United States, Lu attended the high school affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he studied with Li Sheng.
Tae Kim's rare blend of rigorous execution and whimsical styling creates an interpretation of the classical repertoire all his own. His unique talent for classical improvisation earned him "Prix d'interprétation André Chevillion–Yvonne Bonnaud" for the premiere of his work, "Translate (2016)" as well as "Prix–Mention Spéciale Edison Denisov" at the 12e Concours international de piano d'Orléans. He has studied with Jonathan Bass, Bruce Brubaker, Janice Webber, and Patricia Zander.
