Alumni Grant FAQs
Explore answers to common questions about the Alumni Grant, from eligibility to application tips. Still have questions? Contact glipari@berklee.edu.
How far along should my project be?
We prefer to focus on projects that are further along in development, aiming to close any gaps and help push them toward completion. Ideally, we work with projects that are beyond the initial stages and are ready for that extra support to advance them into their final phases.
Can I apply to fund an ongoing project?
Yes, alumni can apply for funding for ongoing projects to support a new phase or significant expansion of the work.
Are there any restrictions on how grant funds can be used?
Yes, grant funds must be used for direct project expenses. Examples include materials, equipment, marketing, and professional services. Funds cannot be used for general living expenses (e.g., rent, utilities, or groceries) or personal compensation. However, honoraria for performers and artists are an allowable expense.
Can I apply more than once?
Yes, alumni may reapply in subsequent cycles, provided they meet eligibility requirements, submit unique project proposals, and have not been a past recipient of grant funding. Alumni are not awarded grant funding more than once.
What kind of projects are funded?
Applications are evaluated on their creativity, feasibility, and potential impact. See our website for past recipients and their projects. Eligible projects may include:
- Professional development opportunities (e.g., workshops, residencies).
- Artistic projects (e.g., performances, exhibitions).
- Community initiatives that use the arts to create social impact.
Will the grant fund my album?
No, the grant will not fund album projects. While we recognize the artistic value of producing an album, this grant is intended to support other initiatives, such as performances, workshops, research, or interdisciplinary collaborations. We encourage applicants to explore other funding opportunities specifically tailored to recording projects.
What is the preferred budget format?
We recommend using a clear and concise budget format that lists all anticipated expenses and income sources for your project. You can use our budget template as a guide. Ensure that your budget is realistic and provides enough detail to show how the funds will be used.
