Jake Weinstein is a composer, lyricist, librettist, director, choreographer, dancer, filmmaker, and producer. He has performed several original cabaret acts at 54 Below and the American Repertory Theater. His satirical cabaret, Javanka, written with Sarah Naughton, received critical acclaim. Their musical Trapped in the Closet was the pilot episode of The Micro-Musical Show podcast. Weinstein’s short dance film, Ode to the Singing Butler, which he directed, choreographed, produced, scored, and edited, was recognized at film festivals around the country, and his score won the Golden Key Composition Competition in Vienna, Austria. Weinstein’s viral video "This is Mitzi Hamilton" was recognized by Broadway.com, Playbill, and BroadwayWorld for his inventive lyrics. As a performer, he has appeared at BAM as Peter in "Peter and the Wolf," in the off-Broadway international tour of A Chorus Line, and at premiere regional theaters, including La Jolla Playhouse, Ogunquit Playhouse, and Pittsburgh CLO. Weinstein studied classical piano and composition at New England Conservatory of Music. He earned his BA from NYU Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a concentration in musical theater performance, composition, and producing, where he had studied with Fiasco Theater. Weinstein earned his MA from Berklee NYC for writing and production for musical theater, where he began development of his new musical, Through the Frame, co-written with multi-platinum songwriter Alexis Kesselman. He is currently on faculty at Berklee NYC as an assistant professor in the writing and production for musical theater program.
