Boston Conservatory at Berklee's Summer Dance Intensive transforms dancers' technique and ignites their artistry while exploring modern dance and improvisation. This is a three-week program featuring acclaimed guest artists and faculty that offers the trademark Boston Conservatory combination of rigorous classical training and a cutting-edge approach to contemporary dance.

How to Enroll

  1. Submit your registration by June 1.* Begin by submitting your registration online. If applicable, you may need to submit additional supporting materials.
  2. Make your tuition payment by June 1.* All programs have limited capacity, so be sure to complete your full tuition payment to reserve your space in the program.
  3. Request housing. Students who are 15 years of age or older by the start of their Boston-based program are eligible to stay in on-campus housing. If you meet the eligibility requirements and have indicated that you would like to request on-campus housing, please revisit your registration portal and submit a Residence Hall Agreement.

Curriculum

During the three weeks, you will have an opportunity to study with our gifted and illustrious dance division faculty–working each week to explore a wide range of dance forms. You can expect instruction in composition, jazz, improvisation, Afro-Haitian, repertory, composition, and classical ballet.

Our internationally acclaimed guest artists will challenge you as you move through their unique perspectives and cutting-edge approaches to contemporary dance. Guest artist lectures, or “Artist Talks,” during each week’s residency will inspire you as you invest in your dance journey.

Performance Opportunities

This summer program will conclude at the end of the third week with a performance at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee main stage theater. The end of program performance will be open to all students, parents, faculty, and staff. This performance will be an opportunity to share what you have been working on over the course of your time with us. For friends and family who will not be able to join us in Boston, the concert will also be made available for viewing at the end of the program.

Requirements

This program is designed for students and pre-professionals between the ages of 15 and 22 who possess a strong technical background in dance. Participants must also have an interest in expanding into contemporary ballet, modern dance, and improvisation.

Participants must possess a proficient level of English to enroll in this program. We do not require proof of English language proficiency (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo) as part of the enrollment or application process; however, you are expected to have a sufficient command of the English language to understand class material and assignments.

  • Juel Lane

    Juel Lane

    Atlanta native Juel D. Lane honed his artistic talents at Tri-Cities High School, the Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, and the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Recognized by Dance magazine as one of their “25 to Watch,” Lane's mesmerizing performances have captivated audiences worldwide, sharing stages with luminaries like Ronald K. Brown/Evidence and contributing as Executive Artistic Associate with the Black Acting Methods Studio. Lane’s choreographic genius has graced esteemed companies like Ailey II and Atlanta Ballet, while his talents extend to film festivals with his award-winning dance film, The Maestro and collaborations on captivating music videos like “Only-1” with Roc Nation artist Dixson.

     
  • Cherice Barton

    Cherice Barton

    After her tenure with BJM Danse, Cherice Barton soared as resident choreographer for Franco Dragone’s Le Rêve Cirque in Las Vegas and Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. This transformative period marked Barton's emergence as a distinct voice in choreography, leading to collaborations with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Crystal Pite, and appearances on platforms like the Grammy Awards and America’s Got Talent. As an educator, Barton shares her expertise at renowned institutions such as Juilliard, USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, and Marymount Manhattan College, while co-founding Axis Connect with her sister to bridge aspiring dancers with the professional dance world.

  • Clifford Williams

    Clifford Williams

    Clifford Williams, trained at F.H. LaGuardia High School of Art and the Performing Arts, furthered his education at the Ailey School, School of American Ballet, and Juilliard, dancing works by esteemed choreographers. Notable roles include principal dancer at Complexions Contemporary Ballet and Compañia Nacional De Danza, alongside appearances in Debbie Allen's The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker and Dwight Rhoden’s “Ave Maria,” earning him a Benois de la Danse nomination. Serving as rehearsal director for Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Williams continues his legacy through teaching, choreographing, and staging Rhoden's works worldwide.
