Specialization in Dance Composition/Choreography
Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s specialization in dance composition/choreography consists of Dance Division courses that allow students interested in creating dances and becoming choreographers to delve deeply into the multiple aesthetics and structures of contemporary dance composition.
Students specializing in dance composition/choreography will take a series of courses that focus on the art and practice of choreography. Through discussions, research, hands-on experience, and performance, students will become proficient in creating dances and finding their own choreographic voice.
The specialization in dance composition/choreography is open to contemporary dance majors who have already successfully completed D-ST 2207 Creative Process and D-ST 2401 Dance Composition 3. Please follow the regular declaration of minor/specialization procedure as outlined in the Registration Guide. This specialization is housed within the Dance Division.
Upon successful completion of the specialization in dance composition/choreography, students will be able to:
- choreograph group works through the use of form and structure;
- choreograph dances confidently using complex modalities;
- create dance works for the stage, including usage of music, costumes, props, and lighting;
- describe/speak about their process and aesthetic vision; and
