Aline Newton joined the Conservatory in 2024. She teaches experiential anatomy for the Dance Division as well as Alexander Technique teacher training. Newton is an advanced certified Rolfer and Rolf movement practitioner in private practice in Cambridge, Massachusetts for over 25 years. She is also chair of the Rolf movement faculty at the Rolf Institute. Her interest in movement has led her to explore various paths from tango to basketball. She integrates the insights of yoga, tai chi, and Pilates into her approach to movement and somatic work. She studied for several decades with Hubert Godard, co-founder of Paris 8 Danse. Her book Reimagining the Body recounts Godard's path of inquiry and its impact on her work.

Career Highlights

In addition to book chapters (Stabilization, Beyond the Core) and popular articles (“Breathing in the Gravity Field”), Newton’s book Reimagining the Body: Somatic Practice, Embodiment, and the Science of Movement is scheduled for publication with Jessica Kingsley Publishers in October 2025.

In Their Own Words

I want students to get to know their own movement strengths and to learn how to befriend their patterns of movement. Living anatomy is about discovering how we move with the constraints and support of gravity as breathing and balancing bipeds. I hope to inspire each student with a lifelong friendship with their own embodiment.
