Larry Sousa joined the Conservatory in 2011 and is an assistant professor of theater. He teaches Sophomore Musical Theater and Advanced/Intermediate Jazz Dance.

Sousa’s extensive career as a director, choreographer, designer, performer, and educator has spanned Broadway, regional theater, television, film, and higher education for more than 30 years. He has directed and choreographed musicals on professional stages from coast to coast, including the Garry Marshall Theatre in Los Angeles, Goodspeed Musicals, Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre, the New York Fringe Festival, Pasadena Playhouse, Joyce Theater in New York City, Musical Theatre West, San Diego’s North Coast Repertory Theatre, Wyoming Theater Festival, Utah Musical Theatre, Toronto's Creativiva, and more.

In Boston, Sousa’s professional credits include productions at Speakeasy Stage, Lyric Stage, Wheelock Family Theatre, Gloucester Stage, the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus, Reagle Music Theatre, and Boston Children’s Theatre. In 2018, Larry became the director and choreographer of Harvard University’s legendary Hasty Pudding Show.

On the Boston Conservatory mainstage, Sousa directed and choreographed Head Over HeelsThe FrogsAnother Roll of the Dice, and Bernstein’s Mass (codirected with Neil Donahoe). He also choreographed Dirty Rotten ScoundrelsShrek, and several new works for the Conservatory’s renowned Musical Theater Dance Intensive (MTDI).

As a performer, Larry has appeared in numerous TV sitcoms, films, commercials, and several musicals on Broadway.

Larry holds a B.F.A. in theater from Ithaca College. At the University of California, Irvine, he pursued a unique interdisciplinary M.F.A. combining directing, choreography, theatrical design, and musical theater performance.
