Lori L’Italien

I believe in working towards a flexible, body-centered technique that allows for full expression and highlights each student’s strengths and personality. A healthy technique should be sustainable and should allow for versatility throughout styles.

Lori L’Italien joined Boston Conservatory in 2017 and is an associate professor of voice and vocal pedagogy. Specializing in musical theater and pop/rock styles, she helps singers develop versatile, flexible, and healthy vocal techniques that support expressive storytelling across a wide range of musical genres.

As an educator, L’Italien has served as an instructor and administrator for the Metropolitan Opera Guild’s Boston Urban Voices Program and for the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood. She is the former program director of performing arts at Lasell University, where she directed theater productions and choir, taught voice, music theory, acting, and musical theater history, and contributed to the creation of a performing arts minor. She is also a sought-after clinician, presenting master classes and workshops for performers and educators at institutions including Berklee Abu Dhabi, University of Maine, Chicago NATS, and theaters and schools across New England.

A versatile and in-demand performer, L’Italien has appeared on opera and musical theater stages throughout Boston and New England. Recent credits include A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (Lyric Stage Company); Rocky Horror Show and A New Brain (Moonbox); Tommy (Maine State Music Theatre); Guys and Dolls (Reagle Music Theatre); Parade and City of Angels (FUDGE); Cabaret; and White Christmas. She has earned IRNE and ARTS IMPULSE nominations and awards, and is a frequent soloist with the Firebird Pops Orchestra.

L’Italien holds an MFA in Musical Theater (Boston Conservatory at Berklee), an MM in Opera Performance (Longy School of Music at Bard College), and a MEd in Vocal Music Education (University of Maine).
