Michael Goetjen is a musicologist whose research focuses on eighteenth-century opera and the music of Mozart, particularly the concert aria and its role in operatic culture outside the theater. In addition to his role at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, he is a lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A harpsichordist and organist as well as a musicologist, Goetjen works regularly in both classroom and performance environments. He performs with A Joyful Noyse early music ensemble at Hancock Church in Lexington, Massachusetts, and serves as interim organist there. Goetjen also serves on the Board of Directors of the Mozart Society of America. He holds a PhD in musicology from Rutgers University.
