When a fairytale princess—living joyfully with her friends—comes of age, her mother, the queen, arrives to steal her away to a new world of iambic pentameter, corsets, and men. The princess must navigate the new expectations, while staying true to herself. Princess Play is a dazzling romp in queer love, feminine friendship, and the line between kid and adult that will make your inner child sparkle.
The December 6 performance at 11:00 a.m. is open to Berklee students, faculty, and staff with a valid Berklee ID, and invited guests only.
Program InformationWriters Note
Thank you so much for coming to Princess Play! This is my first TYA play that I’ve written, and I’m really excited to be doing it for my final capstone! I wanted to create a show that was all the things I wanted to see in the theater I watched when I was younger; something femme, queer, and fun! Youth theater was life-changing for me, as it is for all kids. It builds empathy, confidence, and community, which are all crucial for young people. I hope to work on making new, exciting shows for young people, and work as a theater educator so all kids can get the opportunity to express themselves and learn through theater. Princess Play is a show I hope will appeal to kids and adults alike, and to the princess inside all of us. Enjoy the show!
