I encourage my students to become active problem solvers and seek various answers. There is often more than one solution on the stage of life.
Jun Kuribayashi joined Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2017 and is an associate professor of contemporary dance.
Kuribayashi has been a mover all his life, beginning as a competitive swimmer, breakdancer, and martial artist. At age 22, he took his first dance class at the University of Kansas, where he eventually earned a B.F.A. in dance. The year he graduated, he premiered professionally as a dancer-illusionist with MOMIX. In 2004, he joined the renowned dance theater company Pilobolus and toured the globe as a dancer, dance captain, and artistic associate until 2015.
In 2012, Dance Magazine named Kuribayashi a performer of the year, alongside celebrated artists such as Misty Copeland and Ethan Stiefel. His projects span a wide variety of mediums, and his collaborators include illusionists Penn & Teller, illustrator Art Spiegelman, juggler Michael Moschen, choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, movie director Trish Sie, Grammy Award winners OK Go, and numerous Cirque du Soleil artists. Kuribayashi is the founder and artistic director of Hybridmotion Collective, a movement consulting company whose work has been featured on national and international stages. When he’s not teaching, he is creating work for The Collective.
