String Masters Series: Ilmar Gavilan, Violin
Cuban violinist Ilmar Gavilan performs original music with his brother, Aldo Lopez-Gavilan, from their upcoming album.
Gavilan has had a remarkable career that has taken him all over the world. He has performed for global leaders such as President Barack Obama and Queen Sofia of Spain, as well as with diverse and renowned artists, including Itzhak Perlman and Chick Corea. A first-prize laureate in the Sphinx Competition and top honor recipient at the Lipinski-Wieniaswski and Henryk Szeryng International competitions, Gavilan is a founding member of the Harlem String Quartet.
