Brian McGinnis

Brian McGinnis joined the Conservatory in 2017 and is an associate professor of dance teaching dance composition and technique. He also teaches the professional seminar and is the artistic director for the Dance Division’s Senior Performance Project.

McGinnis performed in New York City for more than two decades in the companies of Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, Elisa Monte Dance, Parsons Dance Company, Buglisi Dance Theatre, and Zvi Dance, as well as with Hubbard Street Dance in Chicago. He has been on the faculties at ChiArts (Chicago’s Public Performing Arts High School) and Visceral Dance Center, and was a visiting teaching artist in Greenville, South Carolina at the Fine Arts Center and the Peace Center. He has had the opportunity to perform at venues such as Jacob’s Pillow, Lincoln Center, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the Bolshoi Theatre, American Dance Festival, the Joyce Theatre, NYC City Center, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Millenium Park, the Shubert Theatre, and the Spoleto Festival in Italy. During his years of national and international touring he has curated many self-produced performances, residencies, workshops, and master classes.

McGinnis holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Juilliard School, a Master of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and an Associate’s degree in Occupational Science for Massage Therapy from the Swedish Institute-NYC. 

McGinnis received the student-nominated Best of Berklee Award (2018) and Conservatory Dance Teacher of the Year (2019), as well as a Faculty Travel Grant and Faculty Development Fellowship from Berklee College of Music (2018).
