Jean Anderson is a nationally recognized coach and pianist. At Boston Conservatory at Berklee, she serves as principal opera coach, coaches singers privately on operatic and song repertoire, and teaches courses in operatic recitative and operatic arias. She also teaches graduate classes in art song at Boston University. She has worked with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Tanglewood Festival, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Opera Collaborative, and Providence Opera. She was a coach at New England Conservatory from 1999 through 2023, and is a frequent clinician at schools of music. She has written a book, The Young Classical Singer’s Tool Box, and recently released an album, La Sera, with mezzo-soprano Felicia Gavilanes. She performs often with her husband and fellow Boston Conservatory member, baritone David Small. She has taught at Flagstaff in Fidenza summer opera program in Fidenza, Italy, the Boston Conservatory Summer Opera program in Valencia, Spain, Canto Vocal Programs, the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Fairbanks, Alaska, and this summer will conduct and coach at the Harrower Summer Opera program in Atlanta.
