Daniel Pelzig joined the Conservatory in 2018 and is a director and choreographer for opera, theater, and ballet.

Recent Boston credits include five years as resident choreographer for Boston Ballet, where he choreographed The Nutcracker, Romeo and Juliet, The Princess and the Pea, Nine Lives: Songs of Lyle Lovett, and Passage. He directed Le Médecin Malgre Lui at Odyssey Opera, The Bartered Bride at Opera Boston, La Clemenza di Tito and Don Giovanni at the Boston University Opera Institute, and choreographed Tartuffe, Sunday in the Park with George, A Little Night Music, Company, Candide, HMS Pinafore, and A Christmas Carol at the Huntington Theatre Company.

Pelzig’s Broadway choreography credits include 33 Variations and A Year with Frog and Toad, both of which were nominated for several Tony Awards. His off-Broadway choreography credits include Privates on Parade at the Roundabout Theatre Company, Newyorkers at Manhattan Theatre Club, The New Moon for the City Center’s Encores! series, and Valhalla at New York Theatre Workshop.

Pelzig has choreographed numerous Metropolitan Opera performances, including Lucia di Lammermoor, La Sonnambula, Iphigenie en Tauride, and Armida. Additional opera credits include directing Countess Maritza at Santa Fe Opera, The Mikado at Kentucky Opera, and Die Fledermaus at Houston Grand Opera; associate directing and choreographing for Le Comte Ory and The Barber of Seville at Seattle Opera; choreographing at Teatro alla Scala, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Los Angeles Opera, and Chicago Opera Theatre.

Theater directing credits include Mary Poppins and My Fair Lady at Musical Theatre West, as well as Guys and Dolls at Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Theater credits include South Pacific and The Winter’s Tale at the Guthrie Theatre, The Marriage of Figaro and Don Juan at the McCarter Theatre Center, Pericles, As You Like It, Romeo and Juliet, and Measure for Measure at the Shakespeare Theatre, and Guys and Dolls at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

In addition to the Conservatory, Pelzig has served on the faculties the Juilliard School, Barnard College, University at Buffalo, and the Ryan Opera Center, as well as guest choreographing West Side Story for the University of Southern California. Pelzig holds a degree in cellular biology from Columbia University.
