Boston Conservatory at Berklee Auditions and Interview Resources
Your audition is an opportunity to showcase your artistry and engage with the Boston Conservatory at Berklee community. Consult the list of programs below to see exactly what to prepare and what to bring with you on audition day.
Contemporary Dance
- Complete the Supplementary Application in Slideroom one week prior to your audition.
- Review audition requirements for the Contemporary Dance program.
- Bring the music for your solo on a phone or mobile device. You are responsible for providing a dongle or adapter, if your device requires one to connect to a standard AUX cable.
- Applicants should choose from the following appropriate attire for their audition:
- solid-colored leotard and tights OR
- solid-colored T-shirt and tights OR
- solid-colored unitard.
- If auditioning on campus in Boston, directions and off-campus parking are available here. Note: Using public transportation or ride sharing is encouraged, as parking near campus is extremely limited!
Commercial Dance
- Complete the Supplementary Application in Slideroom one week prior to your audition.
- Review audition requirements for the Commercial Dance program.
- Bring the music for your solo on a phone or mobile device. You are responsible for providing a dongle or adapter, if your device requires one to connect to a standard AUX cable.
- Applicants should choose from the following appropriate attire for their audition:
- Jazz dance class:
- leotard or tight-fitted tank
- tights or biker shorts (tight pants or nonrestrictive shorts)
- jazz shoes or barefoot
- Freestyle class:
- leotard, tight-fitted tank, or nonrestrictive shirt
- non-restrictive pants or tights
- jazz shoes, heels, or barefoot
- Jazz dance class:

Musical Theater
- Complete the Supplementary Application in Slideroom one week prior to your audition.
- Review audition requirements for the Musical Theater program.
- Bring the backing track or accompaniment for your solo on a phone or mobile device. You are responsible for providing a dongle or adapter if your device requires one to connect to a standard AUX cable.
- Two (2) copies of your headshot
- Two (2) copies of your artistic resume
- For the dance call, applicants should wear comfortable attire that allow for freedom of movement, such as:
- unitard or leotard, dance pants or dance skirts
- solid-colored shirt or tank top
- yoga wear and/or athleisure
- Dance shoes (ballet slippers, character shoes, jazz shoes) are recommended. Sneakers also will be accepted. Tap shoes are not required.

Brass, Strings, Woodwinds, Piano, Harp, Collaborative Piano, and Contemporary Classical Music Performance

Percussion

- The following instruments will be provided in the audition room:
- five-octave Marimba One marimba
- Yamaha xylophone
- three-octave Adams vibraphone
- Walter Light timpani (with Dresden pedals)
- Pearl Philharmonic snare drum (but you are welcome to bring your own)

Voice and Opera Performance

- In addition to the audition, you also will complete a brief interview with current students in the Voice Department.

Vocal Pedagogy (MM and MFA)

- Bring one (1) copy of your piano skills audition sheet music.
- Practice rooms are available thirty (30) minutes prior to your scheduled audition.

Composition

- You are not required to bring physical copies of portfolio or scores.

Conducting
- Complete the Supplementary Application in Slideroom one week prior to your audition.
- Review audition requirements for your program:
- Please bring your own scores of the audition repertoire to use during your audition.
- The live audition will consist of an interview with Professor of Orchestral Studies Bruce Hangen, as well as proficiency assessments in orchestration, music history, score recognition, repertoire, and standard foreign musical terminology.

Choral Conducting
