I work to create a brave space where the actor can begin to take risks—physically, emotionally, energetically—and, by leaping into the unknown, gain confidence, a creative voice, and physical expressivity.

Kate Kohler Amory joined the Conservatory in 2017 and is a professor of theater. Amory is a theater maker: director, actor, choreographer, dancer, and writer. Some of her directing/devising credits include Shakespeare & Company’s Comedy of ErrorsTHIS IS IT, and Henry VII, Part 2 (with Tina Packer); The Ridiculous Project’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, Love EscapeThe Birds, and Romeo and Juliet: A Space Oddity; Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s D.arc WaterDog ActMr. Burns: A Post-Electric PlayThe Mermaid Hour: Remixed, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Salem State Theater’s MacbethBig Love, Ghosts of TroyThe Wolves, and Comedy of Errors; and Brandeis University’s: Hamlet (codirected). 

Her acting credits include: Life of SpidersEinstein’s Dreams (Holderness/Culture Project), Twelfth NightMuch Ado About Nothing (Holderness/Lincoln Center’s Clark Theater), Refracting Miss Julie (OneArmRed, Brooklyn), The Yellow Wallpaper (The Living Theater), PERSONA (Women Center Stage Festival/Culture Project), As You Like ItLove’s Labor’s Lost (Shakespeare & Company), Sylvia (Salem Summer Theatre), Possible Worlds (Perishable Theater), and Much Ado About Nothing (New England Shakespeare Festival). She also has performed the solo shows Punk Rock Mother F--ker (UMass Amherst) and CounterThrust (Boulder Fringe Festival).

She earned her MFA in contemporary performance from Naropa University, her MA from Royal Academy of Dramatic Art/King’s College London, and her bachelor’s degree from Goldsmiths College at University of London. She is certified in somatic movement (DE-SMTT), Arnold Pure Movement Technique, and yoga instruction (CYT).
