The purpose of education and art is to look for the question. There is so much focus on answers when we haven’t even begun to approach the important questions.

Theresa Lang joined the Conservatory in 2016 and teaches theater history, theory, and practice in the contemporary theater program.

Lang is a professor of theater, teacher, director, and dramaturg committed to the creation of ensembles, showcasing new work, and promoting underrepresented voices. As a theater historian, her areas of expertise include the censorship of urban space, popular entertainment, and the development of the American theater. As a dramaturg, Lang specializes in new play development and devised theater. Her book Essential Dramaturgy: The Mindset and Skillset was published in 2017 by Routledge Press.

Lang has taught and directed at Tufts University, Stonehill College, Clark University, Merrimack College, and Boston College. She has guest lectured at various universities and presented at multiple regional and national conferences. Lang is the former chair of dramaturgy and coordinator of devised theater for Region 1 of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, and she was associate director of the New Play Dramaturgy Intensive at the Kennedy Center.
