About the Artists
Katie Lansdale, violin, has performed as a soloist and chamber artist throughout North America, South America, and Europe and as part of numerous concert series, including those of the Phillips Collection, the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater. She has made concerto appearances with the National Symphony, Austin Mozart Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Schroeder Classical Orchestra, Cleveland Chamber Symphony, New York Spectrum Orchestra, and the New York Repertory Orchestra. Learn more about Lansdale.Patrice Jackson, cello, is an award-winning artist who has accompanied iconic contemporary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, and J-Cole. The Detroit News has described her as a “big-toned, boldly projected soloist” and the Hartford Courant complimented her “effortless facility, playful phrasing, and a sense of spontaneity that one hears usually only from the highest caliber of musicians.” She has performed throughout the US with acclaimed classical ensembles, and made her international orchestral and recital debuts in South Africa in 2002. Haram Kim, piano, is a South Korean pianist who made her New York debut at Carnegie Hall after winning top prizes at piano competitions such as the International Young Artist Piano Competition in Washington, DC, the International Beethoven Club Piano Competition, and the International Korean Arts Foundation Competition. Kim has frequently performed as a collaborative pianist with esteemed members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and more. She is currently on the collaborative piano staff at Boston Conservatory. Amanda Hardy, oboe, serves as principal oboist of the Portland Symphony Orchestra, where she currently occupies the Clinton Graffam chair. She has performed as guest principal oboist with the Boston Pops, Boston Philharmonic, A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra, Emmanuel Music, and the Des Moines Symphony. Hardy has won numerous awards, and makes regular festival appearances. Learn more about Hardy.Joseph Damian Foley, trumpet, enjoys a varied career as a much sought-after performer and enthusiastic teacher. His performances have taken him to more than a dozen countries on four continents. Foley is principal trumpet of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra of Houston, Texas. He has performed and toured with such prestigious ensembles as the Boston Symphony, the Boston Pops, the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Ballet of London, and the New York Philharmonic. Learn more about Foley.Katy Rose Bennett, viola, enjoys performing in a variety of genres and ensembles. Classically trained in Nashville, Bennett learned an appreciation of all styles, from fiddle to classical music. She continues blending disciplines as violist of the Venus Quartet while performing as an active violinist in ensembles such as the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and acting as assistant concertmaster for Firebird Pops Orchestra’s current season. Katy Rose graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Music in violin performance from Boston Conservatory, where she is currently working towards a Master of Music in viola performance under the instruction of Professor Rictor Noren.Jonathan Bass, piano, is a Steinway Artist who made his New York debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall after being awarded first prize in the Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition in 1993. He performs throughout the United States as a soloist and chamber musician and makes frequent New England appearances at Symphony Hall, Jordan Hall, and Tanglewood. Matthew Marsit, clarinet, is an active performer and conductor who has led acclaimed ensembles and performed as a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician throughout the United States. He is chair of instrumental studies at Boston Conservatory and serves as artistic director of the Charles River Wind Ensemble. Marsit has previously held conducting positions at Dartmouth College, Ithaca College, Cornell University, Drexel University, Symphony Nova, and Chestnut Hill Orchestra. Learn more about Marsit.
Shaw Pong Liu, violin, engages diverse communities through multidisciplinary collaborations, creative music, and social dialogue. Her project Code Listen, which she started as City of Boston artist in residence in 2016, used songwriting and performances to support healing and dialogue around violence, racism, and police practices, in collaboration with the Boston Police Department, teen artists, family members surviving homicide, and local musicians. Other endeavors include the song-sharing project Sing Home, which she leads as artist in residence at the Pao Arts Center in Boston’s Chinatown, and composing music for Conference of the Birds, an international multimedia collaboration with choreographer Wendy Jehlen’s Anikaya Dance Theatre and dancers from eight countries. Rhonda Rider, cello, was a founding member of the Naumburg Award–winning Lydian String Quartet, with whom she played for over 20 years, and currently is a member of the Triple Helix Piano Trio. Her chamber music and solo recordings have been nominated for Grammy Awards and cited as critics’ choice in both the New York Times and the Boston Globe.
