YAKOV SHULEPOV (B.M. '23): Piano Esquisse No. 2—Movements I and II
This is the first part of my piano and electronics piece. The second part (Piano Wave, movements III–VII) will be performed at the following concert. Movement I is approximately five minutes. Movement II is approximately 10 minutes. There is no processing apart from simple amplification. In movement I, it could be useful to listen for harmonics (higher frequencies). In movement II, it could be helpful to listen for very quiet sounds (touching).

THEODORE Q. DUONG (B.M. '25): “Soaring”
“Soaring” is a work I began writing much earlier in my musical journey. I had just been accepted to Boston Conservatory and was visiting Boston for the first time when I conceived of its main themes. After starting school, my attention turned to other projects and I left it behind for a while. As I finally came around to finishing the piece this last summer, I found it an interesting task to work with material I felt somewhat disconnected with as it embraced classical conventions I had started to move away from and an excitement about life as a musician I no longer had. Now, after much recovery,  I think of the piece as a happy reminder of why I fell in love with music in the first place.

The piece was written in less than an hour. I imagined me and my soulmate dancing on a stage with lights being projected on us.

SIDNEY O'GORMAN (M.M. '24): "Floating Above Cobblestone"
"Floating Above Cobblestone" is the first movement of my Travel Trio. Each movement is inspired by my experiences traveling in the last year. This movement in particular is a reaction to my time in Tallinn, Estonia; walking through their Old Town and experiencing European culture for the first time, I explored the cobblestone streets wide-eyed and overjoyed.

AMBER DAI (M.M. '24): "Blue Winter"
This piece is inspired by the snowy landscape of Minnesota. After the sun goes down, there is still light in the sky, and that veil of brightness covers the snow, making it blue. This piece is scenic yet dynamic, with a contrast between the calm, chilly fields of the Midwest and the energetic melting ice. This is the first piece I worked on when I moved away from Minnesota, and in a way it is a musical postcard for all my memories in the snowy land.

ZEXUAN DING (M.M. '23): "Floating Dust"
“Floating Dust” attempts to perceive the flow of time by exploring changes in string timbres. I explore the subtle timbral changes in the piece by going through some similar gestures, harmonies with different string playing techniques and registers.

Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Composers’ Recital Series is a year-round program of concerts featuring new works by Boston Conservatory composition students.
