Set in Victorian London, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street follows Benjamin Barker, a barber who returns home after years of wrongful imprisonment, bearing a new name: Sweeney Todd. Consumed by grief and bent on revenge against the corrupt judge who destroyed his family, Todd reopens his barber shop above Mrs. Lovett’s struggling pie shop on Fleet Street. As his thirst for vengeance grows, Todd’s pursuit of justice descends into something far darker, with Mrs. Lovett becoming his increasingly willing—and resourceful—accomplice.
Stephen Sondheim’s thrilling masterpiece blends gothic horror, macabre humor, and a soaring, emotionally charged score to explore the devastating consequences of grief, obsession, and revenge. Presented in concert, this production strips the story to its essential elements—music, character, and narrative—placing Sondheim’s extraordinary score and dynamic storytelling at the forefront. This production is directed by Pascale Florestal with music direction by Katya Stanislavskaya. Matthew Marsit conducts the orchestra.
