Art of the Fugue: Counterpoint of Past and Present
A concert for our time: Bach's ageless music interweaves with an array of riveting solo music by contemporary composers: Gamal Abdel-Rahim, Raven Chacon, Yu-Hui Chang, Jessie Montgomery, Fazil Say, Carlos Simon.
J.S.Bach, blind and ailing on his deathbed, dictated his last and most intricate work to his sons: the Art of the Fugue. Of these fourteen contrapuntal creations, the final one was left unfinished, when he passed away mid-phrase.
This concert features three of these complex fugues and culminates with a world premiere of a newly commissioned work inspired by Bach's final fugue by Boston Conservatory alum Byron Hogan.
