Renowned Swiss ensemble Lugano Percussion presents a concert of music for large percussion by leading Swiss and Italian composers. They are joined by soprano Rose Hegele (M.M. '18) and percussion soloist Matt Sharrock (M.M. '11 and instructor of core studies), performing two previously unheard pieces by beloved Boston composer William Thomas McKinley.
Hegele and Sharrock also will give the New England premiere of "Men Nor Gods" by Brittany J. Green, named one of 23 classical composers and performers to watch in 2023 by the Washington Post.
Lugano Percussion is led by Simone Mancuso, conductor.

About the Artists
The Lugano Percussion Ensemble was first formed as Lugano Percussion Group at the Swiss Italian Conservatory by professor Mircea Ardeleanu. Lugano is a lakeside city in the Ticino region of Switzerland. The group has focused on contemporary music with particular attention to the fusion of musical and theatrical language elements and continuous sound research. Learn more about the ensemble.
Rose Hegele, soprano, facilitates artistically rigorous performance experiences that explore the extremes of human vocal and artistic expression in 20th- and 21st-century art music. She has been lauded for her ease with extended vocal techniques, creating "siren-like sounds that explored extremes of the vocal range" (Boston Music Intelligencer). Learn more about Hegele.
Matt Sharrock (they/them), percussion, has been hailed as one of "Boston's best percussionists" by I Care If You Listen. They are a versatile marimbist, percussionist, and conductor who tirelessly champions the music of living composers. They also are a member of Transient Canvas, Hinge, Boston Percussion Group, and the Chameleon Arts Ensemble of Boston. Learn more about Sharrock.
