Opera Talkback: Creating Space for Trans Artists
Following Sunday afternoon’s performance of As One, stage director David Gately will moderate a conversation with classical vocalist Katherine Goforth, filmmaker and writer Kimberly Reed, and faculty member Kayla Gautereaux focusing on the history and current state of opportunities and accessibility in the field of opera and the arts for transgender artists. Katherine Goforth is the inaugural recipient of Washington National Opera’s True Voice Award. In 2022, the As One creative team created and funded this award with the intention of helping to support the training of transgender and non-binary opera singers, as well as increase their visibility in the industry. All opera attendees are invited to participate in the discussion.
