Boston Conservatory’s annual spring dance concert features a captivating lineup of works, including Dvořák Serenade by Lar Lubovitch and SAMA by Andrea Miller, alongside exciting new works by Ken Ossola and Aszure Barton, who is in residence this spring as part of her four-year partnership with Boston Conservatory.

Welcome Note

Welcome to Limitless 2025! Our spring concert is designed to celebrate both the limitless potential of our students and the limitless possibilities of contemporary dance. This year’s program brings together works by four renowned guest artists, each known for their unique voice and aesthetic.

The program opens with a masterpiece of twentieth-century modern dance: Lar Lubovitch’s “Dvořák Serenade.” It’s a joyous and timeless celebration of dance and music, played live by the Boston Conservatory orchestra. Lubovitch received an honorary doctorate last spring from Boston Conservatory at Berklee.

Next is the world premiere of “Falling Up” by internationally acclaimed choreographer Aszure Barton, one of the most sought-after contemporary choreographers working today. This marks year two of our four-year creative partnership with Aszure, for which she will either create a world premiere or re-stage one of her masterworks for us, every year through 2027.

After intermission is another world premiere, “Onward Still,” choreographed by internationally renowned dancer and choreographer Ken Ossola, who has had an enormously successful international career, especially with Nederlands Dans Theater. The piece is set to an original score by composer Polle van Genechten, and we are again blessed to have the music played live by our talented Music Division students.

And closing the program is “SAMA,” a tour-de-force work choreographed by Andrea Miller, founder and artistic director of Gallim dance company in New York City. Dance Division alum India Hobbs (BFA '21), a company member of Gallim, helped to re-stage the piece.

It is an honor to share the work of these artists with you and to showcase the virtuosity, versatility, and artistry of our students. It’s a one-of-a-kind program that truly has something for everyone. Enjoy!

Artist Bios

Aszure Barton’s choreography has been performed on stages worldwide as well as in museums and exhibits. She has also choreographed for film, opera, and theater, and has collaborated with a multitude of dance companies and artists around the world. Early in her career, she founded Aszure Barton & Artists in order to create a collaborative platform for process-centered creation. Barton is a Bessie Awardee, current resident artist at Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and a creative partner with Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Dance Division. Learn more about Barton.

Lar Lubovitch (b. 1943) founded his eponymous dance company in 1968, and has created over 130 dances. His many commissions include American Ballet Theater, San Francisco Ballet, New York City Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Paris Opera, Royal Danish Ballet, Nederland Dans Theater, and other companies worldwide. His credits include Broadway, television, and film, and numerous ice dances for Olympic skaters. Learn more about Lubovitch.

Andrea Miller is a choreographer, creative director, and founder of the internationally renowned multidisciplinary organization GALLIM. A Hispanic creator and collaborator for dance, film, fashion, and the visual arts, Miller is known for her exploration of the essential elements of human behavior and the alchemy of movement and performance. Miller is a Guggenheim, Sadler’s Wells, New York City Center, and Princess Grace fellow, and was featured in Forbes as an entrepreneur and leader in the dance world. She is the first choreographer to be named artist in residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, creating two large-scale works for the Temple of Dendur and the fifth floor of the Met Breuer. Ken Ossola, renowned choreographer and former dancer from Nederlands Dans Theater, created original work for renowned international dance companies including Boston Ballet, Joffrey Concert Group, Geneva Ballet, Shanghai Ballet, Geneva Junior Ballet, and Holland Dance Festival, among others. In addition to choreographing, Ossola enjoys staging works from Jiri Kylian and Hans van Manen, worldwide. Learn more about Ossola.
