Program Information
Welcome Note
Welcome to WinterWorks 2024.
WinterWorks is an annual dance performance that features the mainstage debut of both our contemporary and commercial first-year students. Alumni guest artists currently working in the field have been commissioned to make work for all our first-year dancers. We welcome each guest artist and hold dear this year’s alumni Kevin Lau and Avery Gerhart, choreographing for the contemporary dance program, and Lawrence Alexander and Marquis Floyd, choreographing for the commercial dance program.
The alumni guest artist residencies are made possible through the Dance Division’s Alumni Commissioning Project. The program also presents dances by creative sophomore, junior, and senior student choreographers. This year’s WinterWorks concert has grown in diversity and showcases the many talents of our student population. Always exciting and unexpected, WinterWorks is a celebration of creativity, imagination, and firsts.

Artist Bios
Lawrence Alexander, alumni guest choreographer, is fresh off his national choreographic debut on the Tamron Hall Show, and thrilled to be at Boston Conservatory! Other highlights include his award-winning music video "For Sure," the 2022 Winner for Best Music Video at the elusive Awareness Film Festival in Los Angeles. Alexander was last seen on stage in the Broadway-bound hit show BOOP! The Musical. Godspeed to all God's children!
Marquis Floyd, alumni guest choreographer, is a versatile performing artist and choreographer from St. Petersburg, Florida, and a proud alum of Boston Conservatory's class of 2017. Floyd has an exquisite background in a vast amount of dance genres. His credits include Bad Boys of Ballet, Dance Theater of Harlem, Apple TV, Super Bowl LV, the 2021 Video Music Awards, the Metropolitan Opera, Black Iris Project, and Disney’s The Lion King.
Kevin Lau, alumni guest choreographer, is a Los Angeles-based dancer and choreographer originally from Toronto, Canada. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Boston Conservatory at Berklee with a B.F.A. in contemporary dance. Throughout the years, he has performed in Germany, Canada, and the U.S., working with choreographers Monika Felice Smith, Micaela Taylor, Guillaume Côté, Erica Klein, Peggy Baker, Anne Plamondon, Christoph Winkler, and Eduardo Vallejo Pinto. Learn more about Lau.
Motlee Party, alumni guest collective, is a group of artists brought together by Avery Gerhardt with a vision to collaborate on original works. Following their training at Boston Conservatory, the collective continued to make work together, leading to the production of "Goddamn." The group exhibits something of the world we live in—a volatile political party who has yet to figure out the answers.

As always, thank you to adjudicators Brian McGinnis, Kurt Douglas, Junichi Fukuda, and Ruka White. All are remarkable educators and colleagues. Thank you to each and every student choreographer and dancer who participated in both the audition process and this year's performances. Thank you to Tommy Neblett, dean of dance; Dr. Mila Thigpen, chair of dance; and Margaret Falcone, assistant to the dean, for supporting this annual concert, the choreographers, the dancers, and myself. Of course, a special thank you to the amazing production crew for making it all possible; and lastly, to our audience for taking in all that these young artists have to offer.
