Ching-Yun Hu, piano, is a Taiwanese American artist with a unique presence on the international concert scene, hailed by the Philadelphia Inquirer as a “first class talent…superb pianist” and by International Piano (London) for how “praises follow her around the world.”
Hu is the winner of the Arthur Rubinstein and Concert Artists Guild Competitions, and since her debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, she has continued to perform internationally at major concert venues: Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall in London, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Frankfurt Opera House, Taipei National Concert Hall, Klavier-Ruhr Festival in Germany, Chopin International Festival in Duszniki-Dzroj in Poland, Aspen Music Festival, Oregon Bach Festival, to name just a few.
Her debut album, Ching-Yun Hu plays Chopin (ArchiMusic), won the prestigious Golden Melody Award for Best Classical Album of the Year. Her collaboration with the renowned Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP) resulted in a critically acclaimed recording for BMOP Sound. Additionally, Hu’s 2019 album Ching-Yun Hu: Rachmaninoff received a five star review by Pianist Magazine and was called “essential listening for Rachmaninoff admirers.”
A native of Taipei, Hu studied with Herbert Stessin at the Juilliard School and Sergei Babayan at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and she received further guidance from Karl-Heinz Kammerling at the Hochschule für Musik Hannover in Germany. Renowned also as a curator and educator, Hu is the founder and artistic director of the highly acclaimed Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy (PYPA) Piano Festival. She serves on the piano faculty at the Temple University in Philadelphia.
