About the Artist
Ashley Addington, flute, is a Boston-based musician and educator whose work spans contemporary performance, orchestral playing, chamber music, and interdisciplinary projects. Known for her versatility and artistry, she performs regularly with several of New England’s leading ensembles, including the Grammy-winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), the Plymouth Philharmonic Orchestra, and Sound Icon. Recent engagements include appearances with the Albany Symphony, Odyssey Opera, A Far Cry, Emmanuel Music, and Radius Ensemble. Deeply committed to the creation of new music, Addington has premiered and recorded dozens of contemporary works as both a soloist and ensemble member. Learn more about Addington. Nancy Dimock, oboe, is the principal oboist of the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Boston Lyric Opera, the Springfield and Vermont Symphonies, and the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and is oboist and English horn player with the Glimmerglass Opera Orchestra. She is a member of the Chameleon Arts Ensemble and a regular guest artist at the Carolina Chamber Music Festival, and has recorded for Concord, Albany, and Chandos records, and BMOP/Sound. At Boston Conservatory, she teaches a class on orchestral excerpts and audition preparation for woodwinds. Laurann Gilley, piano, has been a coach and pianist with the Ryan Opera Center at Lyric Opera of Chicago for the past 20 years. She served in the same capacity with Glimmerglass Opera for 15 seasons. Other companies she has worked with include the San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, and Vancouver operas, and the American Symphony Orchestra. An avid chamber musician, Gilley has collaborated on recitals at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, the Chicago Cultural Center, and the San Francisco Opera Schwabacher Series, among others. As a conductor, Gilley has paced performances at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Florentine Opera, Midwest Opera Theater, and Roosevelt University’s Opera Theater. Learn more about Gilley.Jan Halloran, clarinet, is a Boston-based performer who appears in concert venues throughout New England, and has been praised for her “soulful intensity.” She is principal clarinetist of Boston Lyric Opera and Odyssey Opera, and a member of the Grammy Award–winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP). She has also appeared as a guest artist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Pops, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Boston Ballet, and Boston Landmarks Orchestra. A dedicated chamber musician and educator, Halloran is a member of the Boston Conservatory Faculty Woodwind Quintet, has toured with the Walden Chamber Players, and has appeared with such ensembles as Collage New Music and the Radius Ensemble. Learn more about Halloran.Margaret Phillips, bassoon, is a musician and educator based in the Boston area who has performed in many of New England’s major ensembles. Phillips has been a regular substitute and extra musician, both on bassoon and contrabassoon, with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops Orchestra since 1992. As part of the touring Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, Phillips has performed across the United States, toured Asia, and appeared at special events, including Super Bowl XXXVI. She has performed and recorded pioneering new music with the Boston Modern Orchestra Project since its inception, and can be heard on numerous recordings under the BMOP/Sound label, including the 2020 Grammy-winning Fantastic Mr. Fox.
