The voice is a multifaceted instrument that comprises many body systems, emotional centers, and spiritual planes. My teaching gives singers fearless access to vocal flexibility, body awareness, and technical finesse grounded in the innovative.

Taylor Stilson joined Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2018. He currently teaches undergraduate and graduate musical theater, voice performance, and pedagogy courses.

Stilson has crafted a unique career as a vocal pedagogue, singer, and holistic body-mind modality enthusiast. As a vocal pedagogue, he has presented lectures and workshops on vocal anatomy, physiology, myofascial release, and specialized voice topics including Manual Laryngeal Manipulation, Interdependence of Jaw and Tongue Release, and Iliopsoas and Respiration for Singing at Brown University, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, University of Miami, Arizona State University, University of the Arts, Puerto Rico Conservatory, Willamette University, Portland State University, Rider University, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) inBoston. His recent essay “Hypnotherapy as a Supplemental Treatment for and Prevention of Muscle Tension Dysphonia” can be found in the summer 2020 publication of CorpSonore, an online music and wellness journal. He has a certification in Ericksonian hypnosis and training in limbic-dissociative exercises; cognitive tools he has found to supplement students with performance anxiety. In addition to his hypnosis certification, he is slated to complete certifications in massage therapy (with laryngeal massage specialty), personal training, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) life coaching in the fall of 2020.

Stilson completed his first year of D.M.A. studies in vocal pedagogy and performance at University of Miami in 2017. He received an M.M. in vocal pedagogy with collaborative piano studies and a B.M. in vocal performance from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. He taught for Boston Conservatory’s Vocal/Choral Intensive from 2007–2011 and again in 2020, as well as for the Conservatory's MEIP Voice Program in 2012. Stilson has completed additional studies in voice, opera, and piano at the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival, Michigan Opera Theatre, New York Opera Studio, Spring Arbor University, and Interlochen Center for the Arts. He has studied voice with Kevin Wilson, Jayne Sleder, Bill Cotten, and Dr. William Christensen, and has coached with Karl Paulnack, Andrew Altenbach, Michael Strauss, Allison Voth, and Nico Castel. His former and current students have placed finals in the Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions, Classical Singer Convention, NATS, and have been seen in local productions of Miss Saigon, Hair, and Newsies, and in various other regional and international tours.

Stilson also currently teaches at Brown University. He maintains very active private voice studios in Boston, New York City, Providence, Miami, and online.
