Assistant Professor of Music

Michelle Alexander joined the Conservatory faculty in 2002 as a coach for the voice and opera programs, and is an assistant professor of music.

Alexander teaches diction survey courses for first-year voice performance students and is a full-time lecturer and vocal coach at Boston University, where she teaches song literature and diction courses. Additionally, Alexander recently joined the faculty of OperaWorks as a vocal coach for the organization's annual winter, emerging, and advanced artist programs. She serves as chorus master for Boston Lyric Opera and, in fall 2012, served as interim chorus master and associate music director for Portland Opera's annual fundraising gala concert. Alexander has served on the vocal coaching staff for notable opera companies, including Florida Grand Opera, Minnesota Opera, Gold Coast Opera, and Glimmerglass Opera.

Alexander was a Young Artist at Music Academy of the West and holds a B.M. in piano performance from the University of Michigan, an M.M. in coaching/accompanying from New England Conservatory, and a D.M.A. in coaching/accompanying from University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
